LLL:OCTOPUSSY – 40th ANNIVERSARY: EXPANDED/REMASTERED LIMITED EDITION (2-CD SET)

I thought LLL were done for the year! How jolly. I probably listen to JB’s 80s Bond scores more than the earlier ones (I know I know) and Octopussy is clearly massively incomplete so it’ll be great to have the full thing. Bodes well for some other Bond expansions and maybe reissues of those which suffered from the weird production requirements imposed on them.

It's shipping in January, so it is technically starting a new year ;)

Oh for sure. I just thought it was “Black Friday” and out. But hey I honestly think I enjoy a totally unexpected release like this more than anything these days. Can’t wait to hear it. Although it’s a shame they didn’t uncover a never before discovered song that uses the film’s title… that would be some next level rhyming and scanning right there.

But they had to announce them this year so the 50th and 40th anniversaries would still be accurate.

LA-LA LAND ALERT!!!

JAMES BOND SHIPPING UPDATE

However, OCTOPUSSY is experiencing an unexpected manufacturer delay and will begin shipping out on Jan 30. Any orders containing OCTOPUSSY will begin shipping on Jan 30, unless we get them earlier than that, in which case they'll start shipping as soon as they arrive. We apologize for the additional wait.

A gerneral question: Are these the first John Barry expansions by La-La Land? And are they planning to tackle them all one by one (well... or two by two)? What are the chances licence-wise?

Most labels never announce plans for any upcoming titles, and this is no exception.

It's very logical to assume they'd like to do as many as they can, but there is no official announcement of any plans.

From what I’ve seen it is a sure bet that LLLR are going to pursue as many classic Bond expansions as they can.

They clearly have a relationship with EON, and have already released complete/expanded Bond scores (David Arnold scores), and given that we have this and Live and Let Die, a direction and pattern has been established.

If/when they come, I’m here for them.

Plus we know that they have worked on at least two other scores already!

Given how well the Arnold scores sold, I don't see any reason why they wouldn't get around to both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace at some point too.

Both have unreleased music and Arnold seems very supportive and happy to assist.

Were they recorded in London or the USA?

I’m pretty sure the Arnold scores were recorded at AIR Studios in London.

I really hate Barry's modernisation attempts in A View to A Kill etc, but fuck, The Living Daylights is a massive beauty in terms of the Old Man Disco he brought along with him, and totally convinced everyone he is the coolest guy in all:

Yeah it’s not a great film. Even young Christopher Walken and Donna’s mom from That ‘70s Show couldn’t save it.

Walken and Grace Jones are highpoints, as is the score and title song. But it's definitely 'one Bond too many' for Moore ... as he put it himself 'I was mortified when I found out that I'm actually older than Tanya Roberts' mother', and the use of spottable stunt doubles in fairly straightforward fisticuffs only backs this up (don't get me started on the embarrassingly obvious ones during the Paris chase). The other Secret Service staff being of a similar age or older than Moore just adds to the feeling that it's a 'tired' film.

Well tastes vary obviously, but "terrible?" Really?

Really. I don't think there is another actress in the running for "worst". MAYBE Tilly Masterson.

People are disparaging about Barbara Bach in TSWLM, too. You can either get all bent out of shape about Bond Girls of old being hired for their eye-candy qualities ahead of anything else back in the day or you can shrug and say 'That's how it was back then'.

I prefer the latter.

Not even in the same league of terribleness. IMHO.
