Popular Post Jay 37,373
Composer John Williams earned his 54th Oscar nomination for his score to Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, which allowed him to revisit the music he'd written for four earlier films, going back to Raiders of the Lost Ark, 42 years ago. As the years have passed and new characters have been introduced, there are new themes to explore, but also a memorable canon, filled with nostalgic, swashbuckling melodies. John Williams tells Brian Lauritzen he didn't start out thinking he'd write a full score for the film, but after writing a handful of themes, he found himself drawn into the project, and not wanting to let anyone else take it over. https://www.kusc.org/articles/at-the-movies-john-williams Bayesian, Will, enderdrag64 and 3 others 2

Popular Post Trope 527
So awesome to hear Williams around 18:30 to praising Thomas Newman for his combination of orchestra with electronics and other elements when discussing the future of the orchestra in film music. And my goodness, is Johnny still so sharp. And hearing all those musical excerpts throughout the interview got me hyped to listen to the score again. It's just such great music. The part regarding the Tuk Tuk chase was interesting. The interesting part was that John Williams remained quite polite, merely stating, "It's interesting, I'll think about it," in response to the interviewer's suggestion about the chase music being influenced by the vehicle (whether a tuk-tuk or a Mercedes). This contrasts with a more dismissive response like, "I don't think it's that relevant". Do you think John Williams would compose distinctly different music for a chase involving a motorcycle, a Tatooine speeder, or a Tuk-Tuk? I doubt it. It depends on several factors, but not solely on the vehicle itself, I believe.

Popular Post BrotherSound 2,242
One interesting tidbit is that JW initially wrote three concert arrangements, before he decided to take on the entire score: one for Helena, one for the Nazis, and one for Archimedes and the dial. This seems to confirm @Jay's speculation that "Nazis" on the GEMA cue list is a concert arrangement. No doubt both had material that didn't make the final version though. Edmilson and BrotherSound
Alex 2,835
The snapping snare drum and the rendition of the new Nazi motif on trumpet in “Combat Training” sounds like something JW would put in a concert arrangement. BrotherSound

EDIT: He mentions the famous Laura theme from David Raksin as a reference for Helena's Theme. BrotherSound and rpvee
