Same here. Heck, I could probably be talked into it if I heard from enough people that could convince me. I bought both of the LLL The Motion Picture and never had a smidge of buyers remorse.

 

But for a Star Trek release it's been eerily quiet.

What the hell!! I just bought a used copy of the '09 blu-ray last week from someone on eBay for $40, thinking we were never going to get a better version.

 

I waited for years before pulling the trigger on owning a copy of this paranoid masterpiece in its best presentation and all I had to do was wait one more fucking week to learn that it was finally coming to 4K????

The problem is that Tom Cruise* takes more than two years to sign off on album covers, so when he finally gets around to it, WB has switched owners several times already and the approval process has begun all over again.

Hello everyone

2023 has been a very frustrating year for us. We started off with good intentions, taking a break releasing any new titles in the first part of the year so we could catch up on bringing out of stock items back into the office as well build a nice slate of releases we could dole out during the course of the year. However, for some unknown reason, approvals took forever...different processes occurred...elements couldn't be located and well, it's been a rough ride getting anything out for us in 2023...which leads me to this...we have a boatload of titles still sitting on the proverbial dock waiting to disembark. As it stands right now we have a dozen titles waiting for approvals. Half of these will most likely be moved to 2024.

Below is our plan for the rest of the year:

Sept 5 -- Star Trek TOS Vol 2 (cd release)
War of the Worlds/When Worlds Collide (cd release)

Sept 12 -- Scarface (Limited edition Vinyl pressing)

Oct 3 -- One title for sure...possibly 2

Nov 7 -- One title for sure...possibly 2

Nov 24 -- Our Black Friday batch...4 to 5 titles

This year we are going to do something different. When we announce our Black Friday titles starting at 12:01 am pst on Nov 24 the titles will be available to order, as opposed to the following Tuesday like we usually do. We hope to have all the titles in stock and ready to ship starting Monday November 27 when we get back into the office (fingers crossed)

During these months we plan on bringing in some out of stock titles

To answer your questions -- YES! Williams, Horner and Goldsmith far outsell every other composer by miles! Followed by Zimmer, Barry and Elfman. You know what's a great thing about owning and operating a record label for 21 years...you actually have things like numbers to back up your releases and decisions! You know what sells and what doesn't. You know a Danny Elfman genre score will sell but his dramatic stuff not so much. No other label in the last 21 years has done more for TV soundtracks than La-La Land Records. Classics like Star Trek, Munsters, He Man, Streets of San Francisco exist because of us as well as modern day shows like BTAS, X-Files, The Flash and Battlestar Galactica. Look at the 600+ titles we have released since 2002 and you will see that a large percentage of them have been TV soundtracks. If we could do more we would, but these contracts are buried or nonexistent, the elements lost to the ages...or studio folks just don't want to spend the time and do the research, but when we finally have the stars align and get something out by some miracle it's still not enough for some. People like you, while supporting the labels, gripe and complain about what is released and what isn't coming out but show little appreciation of all the hard work that goes with every title. We aren't a dream factory, but we do as best as we can...and then some. Believe me, if it was easy, we would all be releasing some amazing works and taking chances on lesser-known composers or titles, but we have to leave the lights on somehow.

Or, you can do what Matt and I did in 2002 -- go to friends and family, max out credit cards and start your own label and see what miracles you can pull off.

In other words, to quote the great Chief Brody, "Come down here and chum some of this shit!"

Well now, what do you think of Quartet, Caldera and Dragon's Domain editorial choices?
Do you like the kind of stuff they are proposing or isn't this just not your taste, that question haunts me.

Some titles they release I enjoy some I don't, but the problem there is cost and time vs return on investment. We have a larger company so we need to swing for the fences with a majority of our releases, leaving us little room to focus on smaller titles. As the way it is even titles we think were homeruns tend to just be a single or double, to use some cliched baseball phrases. So, we always need to be mindful what we choose. Titles like Lost World and Sabrina help pay for smaller ones like Wuthering Heights and Hot Fuzz. Wuthering Heights has proven a big hit and is close to selling out due to the Japanese market. It took us by surprise to be honest. Its not like it was 10 or 15 years ago where you could release 1000 units or 1500 units of something and have it sell out within days. Wuthering is on its way to being the fastest sellout we have had in years! I think we have fewer than 100 units left and that wasn't a Williams or Goldsmith...a Star Trek or comic book score.

Hello everyone

2023 has been a very frustrating year for us. We started off with good intentions, taking a break releasing any new titles in the first part of the year so we could catch up on bringing out of stock items back into the office as well build a nice slate of releases we could dole out during the course of the year. However, for some unknown reason, approvals took forever...different processes occurred...elements couldn't be located and well, it's been a rough ride getting anything out for us in 2023...which leads me to this...we have a boatload of titles still sitting on the proverbial dock waiting to disembark. As it stands right now we have a dozen titles waiting for approvals. Half of these will most likely be moved to 2024.

Below is our plan for the rest of the year:

Sept 5 -- Star Trek TOS Vol 2 (cd release)
War of the Worlds/When Worlds Collide (cd release)

Sept 12 -- Scarface (Limited edition Vinyl pressing)

Oct 3 -- One title for sure...possibly 2

Nov 7 -- One title for sure...possibly 2

Nov 24 -- Our Black Friday batch...4 to 5 titles

This year we are going to do something different. When we announce our Black Friday titles starting at 12:01 am pst on Nov 24 the titles will be available to order, as opposed to the following Tuesday like we usually do. We hope to have all the titles in stock and ready to ship starting Monday November 27 when we get back into the office (fingers crossed)

During these months we plan on bringing in some out of stock titles

TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA (LAST BATCH)
AI 20TH ANNIVERSARY (LAST BATCH)

To answer your questions -- YES! Williams, Horner and Goldsmith far outsell every other composer by miles! Followed by Zimmer, Barry and Elfman. You know what's a great thing about owning and operating a record label for 21 years...you actually have things like numbers to back up your releases and decisions! You know what sells and what doesn't. You know a Danny Elfman genre score will sell but his dramatic stuff not so much. And this is exactly why I don't comment on stuff I am not interested in anymore. Someone does want them and someone else worked hard on these releases. If I get something I want, good for me. If I don't, I save money. I don't lose in any scenario, only get pleasantly surprised sometimes. These people know exactly what we want and will get it out in due course when (and if) possible.

Maybe Maurizio or Jay could ask MM which of these older titles would likely not get a thumbs up today. We know about Sugarland, Storia Un a Donna and Rare Breed that never got releases (except for a few boots of the first one) and are presumably still on the nixed list.
