I do think that's one of the more admirable aspects of the movie: its the one sequel in which you can tell the filmmakers went "how can we make the most different, indeed diametrically opposed, followup to the original?" And so where Raiders is globetrotting, Temple of Doom really takes place mostly in one place. Where Raiders is very upbeat, almost giddy, Temple of Doom is, as I said, macabre. There are a lot of other comparisons like that.

 

I still don't particularly care for it, though.

I think this is fair. But when I think of the perfect sequel (in terms of what good sequel should do), I still think of Aliens, which did exactly what a good sequel is supposed to do.

 

But yes, TOD was a pretty bold move on their part, though they did go back to safer territory with (the superior) Last Crusade. I will give TOD credit for this however...it's the Indiana Jones film where Indy actually has the biggest impact on the outcome of the story. Those kids would have lived and died as slaves were in not for Indy, he had a direct and positive impact on events. You really can't say the same for Raiders or Last Crusade (and I was saying that about Raiders long before Big Bang Theory!)

Indy V Teaser Trailer music hopes/theories:

 

I know we’d all love for JW to write music specifically for the teaser and full trailer. That would be amazing! But given the state of modern film marketing there will probably be a “trailerized/EPIC version of the Williams material adapted for the promos.
 

But if it can’t be pure Williams material, I’d love for them to utilize an appropriate song in the same vein as the Logan teaser. (Im 99% sure Indy V will have a completely different vibe than that film. Nor do I WANT a depressed broken Indy). But damn, was that an effective use of a Cash song in a comic book movie trailer.
 

A while back, Mangold tweeted that he was writing (presumably Indy V) while listening to a lot of Velvet Underground, an appropriate band given the era Indy V is set. On a whim I went through some of their songs to see what could potentially be used in a teaser. I looked for one that could give the appropriate vibe of suspense/ mystery with intriguing lyrics that would help establish the time and place and entice viewers to want to see more before the inevitable opening bars of the Raiders March kick in to reveal its a trailer for a new Indiana Jones adventure. (So ya, it wouldn’t be the WHOLE song )I picked this one:

 

 

I think an “outta left-field” choice like this (at least for the first teaser) would really pull people in who might not be excited to see the film. Similar to Logan. I dunno. It would intrigue me at least haha.

Both teaser and main trailer used cues from Raiders, as well as a track from the Dune tv show I believe, and of course trailer house drum beats.

He wrote an actual concert arrangement of her theme, but it wasn't recorded at the recording sessions. It debuted in live concerts.

The track Irina's Theme on the KOCS OST is an edited construct of several film cues.

 

After the scoring sessions were finished, Williams revisited the theme by writing an actual concert suite which was performed later in the year. I don't think it's been performed many times since though, if at all.

 

He did something very similar with Window to the Past on Prisoner of Azkaban.

I keep praying for an album arrangement similar to The Force Awakens (pretty great representation of the score) than Crystal Skull (lacking large chunks of set pieces and focused more on “sneaking around” music.)

 

We can hope there may be an academy Promo too to rectify any omissions from the OST. That is, IF Disney sees fit to campaign for it!

Indy V teaser just screened at D23. All the other trailers from that event have been posted on twitter right after. Wonder if this one will? Apparently the title STILL hasn’t been shared yet 😆

”Well, we still have to call it “Indiana Jones 5.” Today at the D23 Expo, Disney and Lucasfilm did not revealthe title of the upcoming film, but we did see a ton of amazing footage.

“This one is fantastic,” a very emotional Harrison Ford said on stage. “We have a very human story and a movie that will kick your ass.” He also said it would be his last time. “I will not fall down for you again,” he said.

What does that mean? Well, in an exclusive sizzle reel show only at the convention, we got a brief glimpse.

It was very fast paced, but among the images we saw carts racing in the street, divers going under the water, and a skeleton popping out. Indy is still teaching, and he walks around in a very busy closet. There are scenes of people fighting on top of a train and eventually we realize that his old friend Sallah is back, and he needs Indy to help him one last time.

There’s definitely a big set piece on horseback, in what appeared to be a flashback, because Indy looked a little de-aged. Boyd Holbrook’s character fires a gun and a big celebration of people in New York City all duck. He and Indy ride horseback through the scene. We see Indy on a horse in the subway.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character was along for some of this. At some point, the two of them are in a bar and people ask how they’re related and Indy says, jokingly, he’s her godfather.

The footage - which also had some plane action scenes and tomb raiding - ended with Indy unleashing his whip in a bar. He just cracks it a bunch of times and tell everyone to back up. They then all take out guns and shoot at him as he jumps out the window.

Action packed, very beautifully shot, it looked excellent. I just wish we knew what it was called. Indy 5 is out June 30.”

That would make sense. Brody has been dead for quite some time though. Would that make sense timeline wise? It depends on how old Phoebe's character is. And it could of course be that the godfather line is just a joke. We'll see.

 

They are still being very secretive about the film. Not revealing a title, character names or even some kind of premise.
