LLL still releases way too much Star Trek material. All this energy could be put to better uses, like producing exquisite John Williams releases like the complete Harry Potter scores, Hook Ultimately Final Comprehensively Complete Edition and Indiana Jones Definitive Complete and Chronological Editions.

It was always my favorite as a kid...now that I hear it clean, it's the most beautiful thing I ever heard! No, but seriously, that's a great cue. One of many that I'm beyond thrilled to finally have. Getting a complete TLW has been everything I hoped it would be.

So anybody else blown away by Ludlow's Speech? Coz I still am. Before I got this set, I wasn't even aware of this cue, it wasn't even on my radar (haha!). Williams seems to be just goofing around here, it seems that effortless, like he's saying to himself, "OK, a little conspiratorial cue, let's see what I can come up with?" I mean, this is one mind-blowingly catchy cue. JW is channeling "The Conspirators" and "Dennis Steals The Embryos" here.

Is there ever a month where one of the slots isn't Star Trek? How much unreleased music can be left? Its great for people who want it obviously, and obviously there are enough of people but it'd be nice to see some other stuff.

That might make living through the Trumpsidency worth it.

Wolfen wasn't really for me, I suppose, but Rescuers Down Under? Oh man, perhaps some nostalgia may be required in terms of impact, but if you like any Disney at all, you owe yourself to at least rent it somehow. It's a GORGEOUS movie to watch, and even uses some pre-Pixar Studios Pixar animation in the opening, I believe, mixed with traditional animation. Simple but effective. Seriously, the first 10 minutes or so, before the mice protagonists even show up, is some of the best traditional animation Disney came out with in the 90s and beyond. But even after that it still tends to impress, and the movie breezes a lot with a lot of fun, some cute but not dumb humor, an awesome villain performed by the late George C Scott, and some cool action sequences. And the music does indeed compliment the film, and stands out, very well. Anyone else agree with all of that?

Those of you who are fans of Paul Dukas's Sorcerer's Apprentice, Saint Saens's Danse Macabre or M. Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain will enjoy Cesar Frank's "The Accursed Hunter" The story is about a hunter who chose to go hunting rather than observe the sabbath as a day of rest. As a result, ghouls and spirits hunt him down. This seems like a lot of fun to play in a concert but sadly doesn't get the notice it deserves due to other, more popular works in similar vein.

Yes. Kind of, but not really. They are a music file that never had any sound effects or dialogue, made by the guys who made the film. Blu Ray rips are all made by fans who are using their computers to extract music from the blu ray's track (which contains music, sound effects, and dialogue all together), generally using the rear channels since most dialogue is in the center channel and most sound effects are only in the fronts. There's a repeating idea following the group throughout the film. 0:55 - 1:10 on subtle Percussion. 1:04 - 1:34 3:05 - end.

*Sorry for not embedding the YouTube videos and just giving the links* I'll start with "the First Order B theme." I've been calling it that because it was used, along with what is clearly a First Order theme ("the First Order A theme") in the unused parade grounds cue (see above in earlier thread posts today). However, I always knew this was on shaky ground because other uses simply don't support that association. For instance, the example I used for the theme above in FYC "On the Inside": It starts during the base infiltration, right after Han and Chewy dispatch some stormtroopers and move on further inside, trying to reach the oscillator. After about a second or two we cut to Rey and Finn running into the door control room or whatever it is, in order to open some doors for Han and Chewy. The theme's tension gets higher and higher as Rey works to open the doors. Then she's successful, and Han and Chewy head through the doors. The theme's appearance ends. While, obviously, the First Order is not entirely un-associated with this event (it's their base after all!), no First Order troops are present during the scene (save for the stormtroopers being killed right before). This is really about Han, Chewy, Finn, and Rey. So perhaps this theme signifies the Resistance, or "plotting"? Let's take a look at another appearance of the theme, then: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxQSwI5aPja9cEg3TElmWGdUdW8/view The above is probably an unused segment of the village attack sequence from the beginning of the film. It sounds very heroic, and in the documentary where Fennel Ka found most of it, it plays as we see Poe filming the Jakku attack sequence and Kasdan talks about him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CHf948D2qE Obviously that doesn't mean for sure that it would have played for Poe in the film, but somehow it feels right. It doesn't feel quite like it would underscore stormtroopers killing people or any other First Order evil. Although, interestingly, the First Order is of course very prominent in that scene. We may have more support for a "good guys" association here. The "plotting" suggestion can't be entirely forgotten either, as it's possible that Poe was "plotting an escape" at this moment in an earlier cut. Oh, I just realized that there could be some connection here to the "Finn and the Villager" deleted scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvKbOF78s_E). For instance, this cue could have underscored Finn running, and then ended with those brass notes when he sees the villager right at the beginning of the scene. That might support a First Order association. I also just realized it could be an alternate for the scene where Poe fights for a moment after giving the map to BB-8, and then ending with Finn and the blood streak. This might support a Resistance association of the theme. Crap - this stuff is crazy complicated! So much speculation. Anyway, before I stop discussing this theme, there are a couple more things I want to note: First, the village attack cue as heard on the OST also has some instances of the theme. But they seem to have been microedited out of the film. For instance: Also, remember the parade grounds cue I mentioned earlier? Well, very interestingly, the theme seems to be heard right after the Resistance is mentioned in Hux's speech! From what I've been able to gather, it seems that the longer version may have underscored Korr Sella aboard a Resistance ship traveling to Hosnian Prime, or something of the sort (http://makingstarwars.net/blog/2015/07/29/star-wars-the-force-awakens-and-the-happenings-at-kanatas-castle-part-1/). Because it was edited, we can't know for sure that Williams intended the exact match-up of music and picture that you see in my restore, but it is interesting to note a possible Resistance association here. In any case, in recent days I've really started to think that this might not be a First Order theme after all. But why would the Resistance need another march-ish theme? And would Williams really write a theme for an abstract concept such as "plotting"? What do you all think? @Datameister? @crumbs? Anyone else? I'll ramble about some other thematic stuff I've been thinking about at a later time.

It sounds like you're going to great lengths to justify how easy Rey mastered the force. A month of training vs. no training at all is a big difference. In the end I think people just have preferences. Some feel it's natural for Rey to become one with the force so rapidly, while others like me feel it hasn't been 'earned'. I don't think there's much to say beyond that without going into a tedious and boring technical writeup of how the force works.

The movie should bring it in such way that I believe that a newbie defeats the new Darth Vader. It's a big discussion on the internet so I don't think it has fully accomplished that.

They've said these movies continue the Skywalker family saga. If she isn't a Skywalker, that doesn't make sense. One thing that was missing from the movie was the Resistance super weapon. That was what was going to make this end battle unique, they'd have this bigass thing taking out star destroyers.

This falls into the category of Star Wars was expected to be a single film rather than a trilogy. Sure. I can accept that what we have seen in TFA is just the beginning (Call/Refusal/Acceptance) of Rey's full journey, but imho it must work good both on the single film scale and the overall trilogy macrostructure.

What I found really disappointing is how poorly adapted is the classic paradigm of Joseph Campbell (the Hero's Journey) when it comes to Rey. Very sloppy screenwriting.

By the way, I couldn't be happier that I missed everything the last two months. Made the experience completely fresh. I hadn't even heard the characters speak. Even little moments that are in the trailer (which I watched just now, after the movie), such as seeing Poe and Finn reunite. That's a little moment, but it's still something that I'm glad I didn't see. Made the impact even greater in my viewing experience when it happened.

Yeah they just found Luke in 5 seconds so that might be true yeah that it took a long time of travelling along that mapped out route. I just don't want to to jump 2 years later with Rey already trained. I want to see her journey and I don't want her to be a fully badass Jedi. Luke is already that, so I want Rey as a wreckless, confident, inventive scavenger who happens to know the force.
