Rey will raise a force baby with force ghost Ben, and they'll name it Han. Han Skywalker. And f**k it, let's have Ben lighting the family christmas tree with his force-lightening ghost powers. A. A. Arpy 4,145
Nope, not going to subscribe to this outrage culture. Save it for real issues. The way the film justifies it is simply the very real regret and remorse one faces after going too far. People don't just face their problems right away and within the film's story - Rey admonished Luke for not rejoining the Resistance. 25 minutes ago, leeallen01 said: There is no argument in favour of Luke Skywalker considering murdering his own nephew and then running away from his responsibilities while said nephew destroys the galaxy with his new black robed buddies. Popular Post Romão 2,274
Well, I must say really did not like this movie. I liked TFA and loved TLJ, but this is one just has too much of everything. Too much plot, too little story. Too many planets. Too many short scenes. No sense of place. No atmosphere. No breathers. I knew I was in trouble right after the opening crawl, with so much exposition being thrown at Kylo Ren. Say what you will about TLJ, but there was a wonderful sense of place in that island. The scenes took their time. The cinematography was fantastic. There was a lot more impact in that Snoke throne room scene than in any Palpatine scene in this one, which always have that fake CGI sheen look to them. Even TFA achieved that very real sense of place in the early Jakku scenes. Not in this one. The movie just jumps around too much. Planets come and go without leaving any impression. I'm surprised how great the score turned out, with a movie as scattered a fast cut as this one. There are literally 10 seconds scenes of exposition that interrupt the previous scene. With the best Star Wars movies, you can summarize the plot in like a paragraph. 6 major things or so happen. And that's it. This one is convoluted. It's just all over the place. The complete score will this movie seem to be much better in my head. And a good score is the most important thing about a Star Wars film. Other than that, I'm bummed, I really wanted to like this. Sorry for the scattered thoughts shad79, Potterhead, Remco and 2 others

rough cut 1,715
The movie was good, way better than I expected. It is similar to TFA, but better. I liked how they copied the plot points from ROTJ. It’s a bit shameless, the way they do it, but it works. I liked that they retconned a lot of the Rian Johnson TLJ nonsense, they should never have tried to “flip the genre on its head” or whatever Rian said... This is back to form, and kind of proves that Disney is a bit of a shamed of dropping the ball on that one. In the end, I think that they tied the three trilogies together, and ended the “Skywalksr saga” in the best way possible.

Chen G. 3,964
Even if George Lucas had written all the scripts by his own (which he didn't), the role of the director is key, and he didn't direct the later two entries. Lucas wasn't even on the set for most of the production of The Empire Strikes Back. People complain about the lack of an outline for this trilogy or for the lack of one man's vision guiding it through, and they forget that the same could apply to the classic trilogy that they like so much. That was George Lucas, writing his first own draft after Brackett's death, on his own. Still, her sensibilities are all over the Han-Leia romance, and of course Lawrence Kasdan made a huge difference to the script later on. You definitely can't credit the screenplay of The Empire Strikes Back solely or even primarily to George Lucas, which is partially why he only has a "story by" credit. leeallen01 2,136
To be honest, it was all over the moment they decided to bring Palpatine back in a foolish attempt at 'bookending' the 9 films as one. It's baffling to me how someone can just cancel out the impact of the Original Trilogy, and remove all meaning to ROTJ, but think they are doing some grand statement of storytelling. Well, after Darth Maul apparently survived being cut in half (per THE CLONE WARS and SOLO), it isn't much of a stretch to suggest that the powerful Emperor survived a fall down a shaft. Perhaps he landed on an antenna like Luke did. Perhaps he landed on an antenna like Luke did. That's true. I think people do understand that this is ridiculous fantasy, so anything can happen within the lore rules they have established. But to bring back Maul doesn't remove any power from the storytelling. He was just a tool of Palpatine. He was basically there to be a 'Phantom Menace' that ultimately enabled Obi Wan to have the need to mature quicker and face training Anakin alone without Qui Gon's help. But bringing back Palpatine removes a lot of power from the storytelling, and ultimately changes the entire outlook of the OT. Of course the entire Disney Trilogy does that just by existing. Popular Post #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Random ruminations. Finn gets coupled with 3 female characters in 3 films, and nothing really comes of it, ever. Romantically or otherwise. Finn actually doesn't have much of an arc in this film. There's no way Palpatine's return was something that was planned before JJ took over this film. Its done without any subtlety or build up. The crawl just says he's back, and the first scene in the film confirms it. JJ did s clever job reverse engineering some other parts in this film. But Palpy returning.. ..was never in the cards And he returned, with the biggest fucking fleet of Star Destroyers, all with planet killing capabilities! This is very JJ. Bigger is better. Even though it isn't even remotely plausible. What did Finn wanna say to Rey? Why did Poe seem to object to it? Is Finn/Poe still a thing? If they're supposed to be gay, why not actually show it? The Rey/Ben stuff... works. Its the solid center of a film that otherwise refuses to have a center. The conflict between them feels real and personal. TROS is the first film to put Rey, Poe and Finn together for any length of time. Its a good idea. Like how Star Trek 5 is the first to put Kirk, Spock and Bones together for a prolonged period. Fans hated Hux, so Hux was killed unceremoniously. Its dumb and unproductive fan service. We get a new guy who's the same, but more boring. Where did he come from? Did Palpatine send him? Leila's death was perhaps a bit too understated, but considering the actress died years ago, i understand why they wanted to not make it gaudy. Its one of the few things in the film that is understated. Considering the circumstances Leia was actually well used in this film. Carrie Fisher's daughter is sporting Leia's hairdo from TESB in this film. Nice nod. Rey being Palpatine's grand daughter is 100% pointless to the story. Its fairly harmless, save that it retcons the more interesting revelation from TLJ. That she's no one, and has no lineage worth a damn. I largely enjoyed this film, even though almost none of it actually makes any sense. Its big, its incredibly referential to what came before in a way that is both clever and incredibly limiting. Its trying to do the same thing Avengers: Endgame did earlier this year. And surprisingly, the MCU actually did it in a way thats more clever Remco, SteveMc, Score and 1 other
