    • Yes, I pre-ordered the CD from Disney Emporium in June/July
    • No, because the order page was removed before I could order it there
    • No, because I assumed it would be sold through other retailers in August
    • No, because I do not want to own this album on CD
    • Yes, but only when it returned for sale for briefly in August

I wonder if this started with a contracual obligation and now that each batch keeps selling out, one department is negotiating with another amongst a culture (or pressing capacity) where physical media is just for DVDs/BDs.

I'm sure I read a while back one of the labels talking about competing for pressing time in the dwindling number of plants, where the latest release from (insert major artist) totally eclipsed their capacity because they were prepared to pay more. Hence if Disney has a choice between visual media (which obviously sells) and a few thousand copies of a soundtrack, perhaps some circumstance we're not aware of is making things tricky.

Or someone at the DME is doing a terrible job and doesn't know what the hell they're doing. Don't call me an apologist yet ;)

I don’t think the stock shortage is by design or part of Disney’s marketing plan. But it’s annoying for us consumers - and most likely for Disney as well.

But as a consumer I find it much more annoying - and a bigger problem - that this seems to be a Disney Emporium exclusive. That’s a bigger problem as that seems to be their only go-to-market strategy for this CD.

By keeping it as a DE exclusive upon its initial release Disney can basically monopolize all sales to them selves, thus increasing their gross margin by removing all middle men (retailers) that need a cut of the cake. So I think the stock issue is annoying to Disney as well.

Aside any delivery issues with stock, from a business perspective it makes sense to monopolize a product like this for a limited time just as it is released and demand for it is at its highest. Let’s just hope their business plan includes this next step: offering the product to other retailers and treat it just like any other pop culture CD - because if not, once other franchises become a priority at Disney they might stop restocking this and shift focus to selling Frozen sequel DVDs or whatever. That would mean it would go OOP for real.

There probably comes a point with every title where it gets harder to find a physical copy. I was vaguely interested in finding Shrek on Blu-ray a while back and found that the only 'current' options from Amazon were a box with all four movies. Of course I could buy it used but I was a bit suprised that I couldn't just purchase a new copy.

Why can't they just let everyone pre-order who is interested and then press the requested number of dics? This is really laughable for such a big company.

I know y’all could care less but I’ll bring this up:

this is the same strategy that Lionel Racing uses for their NASCAR diecasts. Pre-Order the car, if it reaches a specific number of people (couple hundred) they make the car and ship it to the pre-orders. This company also make a bunch of spares for those who didn’t pre-order.

It’s a good strategy and should be used way more often.

I paid my vat in the spanish post office website… just 3€ . It seems they may have put on the value the real price (with discount) and without tax?. Hope it arrives soon. Its been more than one

month in transit… i feel sad for the jewel case. I hope the cd is fine 😓

Be grateful they didn’t look on fleaBay a few days ago to get an idea of what a typical price might be…

There are three things that are certain in life:

Death, taxes and customs.

Funny that people often say Canada is a high-tax socialistic country, when on the issue of customs we are far more pragmatic than Europe in terms of bothering to apply the customs tax on postal orders. Officially the deminimis amount is only $40, but increasingly anything below $200 just gets waved through as "not worth the bother".

But in Germany and Austria (examples I've read so far), it seems the pedantic authorities don't mind paying someone 20 or 25 euros an hour and let the postal system crawl to a halt to collect 4 or 5 euros because "rules are rules". :nono:

Me, resting peacefully, waiting for a European retailer to eventually offer it.

Still very odd the whole procedure:

CD pops up on Monday 21 August for "pre-order', suggesting it was currently out of stock and in production.

Shipping was announced for August 30 but CD has been shipped on August 23 as per email, implying that it was physically in stock at the time of "pre-ordering".

Hi guys, I am confused.

I caught a copy the other day along with ALADDIN Legacy Collection, to save shipping costs. The Indy info says "Ships on or about: 08/30/2023" and it's "In progress" which it's alright.

But yesterday, when all of you were saying your Indy 5 was shipped, I got an email that says it was Aladdin the one that was shipped!

If there were copies around, wouldn't be logic to place both items together? May they respect the order queue instead? Here's hoping I get my Indy 5 too!

EDITED: Also I am seeing in my credit card that the charge is lower than the quantity the order summary says. It looks like they charged Aladdin + shipping costs + taxes, but a little less of shipping costs that the total. I don't understand this, shouldn't I have the whole order paid at the moment? Is this a normal practice from Disney Music Emporioum? Did you paid the Indy 5 total order when you placed it?
