I mean, hypothetically if he passed on Episode IX specifically in order to do something completely new, I might consider it a fair trade depending on what the movie even was, the director, and how the score ultimately turned out, weighed against the potential of Episode IX. But the only real precedent we have for that in his career is when he ditched Harry Potter for Memoirs and that was a bit of a unique case. Realistically, we're either getting 2 more hours of Star Wars music or nothing.2 points -

The pre-shipping period is one of my favorites, next to maybe shipping and post-shipping.2 points -
I find all the discussion based off of MV's post here interesting. I didn't find anything he said nebulous or confusing at all, and I'm surprised how many assumptions people drew from it. Here's the post again just in case Facebook ever eats it, and its not on this page anyway https://www.facebook.com/lalalandrecords/posts/10155939087978755 He's simply saying he spent the weekend listening to some Black Friday titles that have already been mastered. "7 CDs worth of product" could be a 4CD set and a 3CD set, a 6CD set and a single disc release, three 2CD sets and a single disc, etc etc - lots of possibilities. These aren't clues, he's not providing any information to let people guess what they are, just telling people to set money aside because its going to be more expensive than usual, and full of more titles that will sell out faster than usual.2 points

Hans Zimmer & Benjamin Wallfisch's Blade Runner 2049
Will reacted to Lord Zimmer for a topic
Hmm, sounds like it's a Benjamin Wallfisch score produced by Zimmer who was busy touring. He really does only go a 100% for Nolan. Can't even blame him.1 point -
It's clearly something to do with my middle-class protestant upbringing that I'm much more open to listening to Williams talk about how composition is hard, pragmatic work that you have to keep at every day. I get mistrustful of Zimmer's whimsical exercises. I have the same reaction to Eno, whose music I adore so it's not a judgment on Zimmer at all.1 point

I used to dislike Gosling too, before ever seeing him in anything. He has a resting smug face like the best of 'em do with that look. But I've since come around to the guy after seeing him show up in a couple of different things I've watched. He's fine now, I got over it.1 point -

The Official Pop and Rock Music thread
Naïve Old Fart reacted to Bilbo for a topic
The problem is Liam’s voice isn’t up for an Oasis’s reunion. He could do theatres and maybe the odd arena and he’d be fine. He couldn’t do a stadium tour though. He’s lost all power in his voice. Liam talks a lot of nonsense though. He talks about wanting this that and the other but he takes no responsibility. When theyre in the studio he only wants to be around to lay down his vocals. He leaves all the heavy lifting to Noel. He doesn’t want to be involved in equal share of the work and Noel doesn’t want to give him an equal say as a result (which seems fair and to be honest). when they were recording the last oasis album he fucked off unanoucned in the middle of recording sessions in the US to go and get married. There were vocals still to be recorded. That was over 10 years after he left a US tour in the middle of it to go and buy a house. So I don’t think he’ll have changed much since then despite what he says. Liam loves playing the hurt little brother in the media but he’s full of shit. Anyway, oasis were at their best in the mid 90s when Noel was writing the songs and Liam was singing them. Then Liam’s voice went into decline and other people started writing oasis parody songs for the band. Noel’s solo stuff has been much better than everything from Be Here Now onwards so I’m happy for that’s to continue. Now, if you could get me Liam Gallagher from 1995, I’d snap your hand off for a reunion.1 point -
Definitely! BTW, if you get it, don't buy the OST; There was a mastering error with that product that was never fixed. The right channel is out of phase, causing a distortion of sound throughout the entire program. The Deluxe Edition sounds amazing https://www.moviemusic.com/soundtrack/M09656/predator-2/1 point

Yes, I think the sequel score is better than the first (although with the films, it's the other way around).1 point
-
I think it is one of the better OST Horner has produced around this era. Ah the mystery has been solved. The only track missing from the OST is Troy. But it consists of two cues and a portion of one of them can be only heard in the film. So we're missing a 2 minutes or so of one cue altogether between the two albums. Apparently the missing material can be extracted from director's cut end credits. But I'm not that desperate. Karol - who still thinks people mislike the score purely because of politics behind it1 point

Why do people hate daytime soap operas?
Gruesome Son of a Bitch reacted to Brónach for a topic
I briefly enjoyed a soap opera called Game of Thrones I sometimes wonder if this is one of the reasons I can't get into a certain kind of TV dramas created in the USA. I lasted up to the second episode of the second season of Breaking Bad for example. The European attempts I don't even try.1 point -
I haven't seen TULIP FEVER and THE CIRCLE yet, but the other movies are pretty good, yes.1 point

Based on Rian's existing work, I'm expecting far more opportunities for the music to shine, as opposed to JJ's style (shorter scenes, tighter editing, less space for long-lined melodies and cues). Just watch Ozymandias if you have any doubts about Rian's style. There are extended portions of that episode where music and visuals are the only storytelling elements in effect, and multiple moments where sound effects carry the drama to great effect (Walt collapsing to the ground after that death is etched in my memory).1 point

Which are your Top 5 Danny Elfman scores?
Josh500 reacted to Nick Parker for a topic
It's been years and years since I've listened to this one, thanks for sharing a link! Definitely agree with you about the score. I really liked his other three from 2008, though; a lot of people seem to diss Hellboy II, which I certainly did, when I first listened to it, but it became a favorite of mine! I used to buy every Elfman score that came out until about 2010 or so, but my interest in him started to wane, and my tastes began to diverge from his voice. Over the last year or so, though, I've had that feeling of "Huh, I wonder how the guy is doing." While his palette seems to be a little more monochromatic than in his earlier days, after checking some of his scores over the last several years, I'm reminded why I enjoyed him when I was younger; while I don't go crazy over his stuff, I do have a lot of respect for him as film composer in the tradition of Jerry Goldsmith, where he experiments and tries to do something unique for the film he's working on. That said, my first reaction to Tulip Fever was "Holy crap! I miss this side of Elfman!"1 point -

And me, now. And the great James Southall, until recently. But he's come around to your side now: http://www.movie-wave.net/back-to-the-future/ But notice the reply by Erik Woods referring his previous low opinion of the score...and there's a later commenter, Howard Hand, who "agrees more with the original 3 star review". From the CSO promo booklet (http://cso.org/globalassets/tickets-and-events-blocks/2017-18_season_catalog.pdf): Looks like tickets went on sale in August last year. Long time to wait if that's how it is this year! The concerts are labeled differently (different "series," except for two being regular CSO) and there could be some different programs between them, as there were in 2013 (two concerts had one program, the third had another, which was basically the first with some extra music). Wow - still can't get over it. This will be my first chance to get to see JW live!!! (... assuming he stays healthy ) I feel like this is a gift from the Gods LOL. I have a cold, it's finals week at school... But I'm totally giddy right now. One more emoji for good measure:1 point
