  4. Just heard the digital version. The track “Gimmel’s Surprise” is probably the best that come out of this. In particular, this moment: ^^ What A Powell! (and how it ventures a bit into “Call of The Wild” realm right there) And I also love how from 1:27 onwards is a cleaner arrangement and better-mixed version of the waterfall cue. Also liking the ostinato from 2:58 till the end. How I wished this track is a solo Powell track, not a byproduct of his assistant. Then, I looked at Hans-Zimmer: ^^ Fyuh, thank god 😄

  9. The legendary STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE soundtrack world broadcast premiere story as told by yours truly on the day of its 25th anniversary broadcast. ----- On May 1, 1999, Erik Woods had the great pleasure of premiering the soundtrack to STAR WARS: EPISODE I - THE PHANTOM MENACE by John Williams to the world on his soundtrack radio program, CINEMATIC SOUND. Little did he know that while his show was on the air, the server and network at Mohawk College, the home of C101.5 FM, were dying... and it was all because of this show. Here's the story of how a little soundtrack radio program disrupted internet service at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, for three days!

  10. I'll just chime in to say that when I first got copyright notices from the KOTOR 2 album (and got the same hidden metadata notification) AHA Music didn't pick anything up until either when it released, or when it was about to release. So it appears to be the same situation here.

  12. The humour in Ragnarok is almost always about character. In Ragnarok, there's a play depicting Loki's death. It's hilarious, but it tells you absolutely everything you need to know about Loki: he craves affection from his brother and father and has no idea how to go about it. Loki's arc and relationships are completely set up in that scene. In Love and Thunder, there's a play scene depicting the events in Ragnarok because...people found the play scene funny in Ragnarok. To me, the difference in those two scenes sums up the movies. Ragnarok is never laughing at Thor. He has a good story, learning to not make the same mistakes of his father while learning to lead. Loki, Valkyrie, Korg and Banner/Hulk's little arcs all revolve around Thor - he helps them all to become better people. Love and Thunder laughs at Thor. He takes nothing seriously and is completely inept a lot of the time. The style of humour is similar in both movies, but the context is entirely different.

  13. I like both scores. The film is decidedly so-so, but it has some nifty matte paintings, courtesy of Albert Whitlock, and a rather gruesome death scene, involving a German guy, and a gas oven.

Thrawn's Arrival Maul Escapes Thrawn's Web Thrawn's True Face [Sabine and Ezra Talk] Sabine's Catharsis Mon Mothma's Speech It Ends Where It Began Ezra Returns Binary Sunrise Thrawn's Orbital Bombardment Breaking Through the Blockade The White Loth-Wolf Kanan's Past Kanan Prepping for Rescue Kiss and a Rescue Kanan and the Fire Nobody More Than Kanan Temple Collapses Kanan's End Credits Pryce Victorious Hera's Arrival Ghost Pursued Ezra Reflects I Can Always Count on You Rukh Calls Thrawn Thrawn and Ezra's Standoff Sabine Sees Ezra Shootout in the Shield Generator Melch Rushes In From the Rubble Gregor Epilogue Nothing's being picked up by AHA Music, though. I'll keep trying to see if any of the rest of the available music is going to be blocked on new uploads. If this really is finally releases for the third and fourth series I very much hope that as little of what is already available is included or at the very least it's to the standard of The Bad Batch releases in how much there is per episode. (Not how they combine cues) Edit: Tried uploading some rips of unreleased cues, these had the same "Metadata is hidden" message: Ezra Controls the Walker Ezra Apologizes Mouse Droid Spy Shootout Outside the Dome Ezra and Thrawn Meet the Emperor Wolves Run by Ghost Melch vs Stormtroopers Ezra's Backup Purrgil Arrive Detonate the Dome Ezra's Recording [Victory on Lothal] (Possibly part of Ezra's Recording) [Finale End Credits]

Would be boring to people, I think, but it has to do with when I read it, the manner in which I read it, King's language and the way it influenced my own writing etc. etc.

  22. Didn't know where else to put this but I've ripped and uploaded all of the unreleased tracks from "Nixon" onto my YT channel in this playlist. I used the 5.1 channels to isolate the score and used the cue sheets/titles to figure out what was released/unreleased. It actually turned out pretty clean and we can finally hear some of these tracks in good form. I did this same thing for "JFK" on the channel in a separate playlist.

  24. May be a good thing Herrmann's not around to approve an expansion. He'd probably put a program together and shout or burst into tears of general frustration at the mere suggestion of changing something. If you've heard the extended interview with him from the 70s, the idea that he's working for a director who might have an opinion on his music seems completely foreign to him. I don't think he'd get a scoring job nowadays.

  26. "I WANT THE TRUTH!" "YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!" "Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lieutenant Weinberg? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the Marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall -- you need me on that wall. We use words like "honor," "code," "loyalty." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand the post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think you're entitled to!"

  27. In general I love Herrmann much more than Addison, but I'm one of the rare people who actually thinks the Addison score fits this film better. I think it's really underrated and I'm excited to experience it in expanded and remastered form! (Glad to get everything Herrmann recorded of his work too, of course!) Yavar

  28. Seems like you're mainly familiar with later Hitchcock. Maybe you'd like his earlier stuff better (the Warner Bros. held stuff rather than the Universal held stuff). I for one really loved Stage Fright, on the WB set. I do highly recommend you watch all of Rear Window and Vertigo (the latter has its problems but it's *so* great visually). I think Hitchcock's most perfect film might be Notorious. Topaz has one excellent sequence but otherwise I really don't care for much. It might tie with Shadow of a Doubt as my least favorite Hitchcock. I also really don't care for Spellbound. Lifeboat is pretty good but after the opening great Friedhofer cue, no score at all! I also enjoy Foreign Correspondent, Saboteur, The 39 Steps, and The Lady Vanishes. To Catch a Thief is fun but very lightweight. I would say I'm a fan of Hitchcock and even in his very worst films there is *some* element I like, however small. But he's much more hit or miss for me than say Billy Wilder. And Billy Wilder is more hit or miss for me than say Akira Kurosawa. Yavar

  31. No, that's Ragnarok. I continue to be baffled by the people that loved Ragnarok, but thought L&T was awful. Other than Ragnarok had Loki and Banner, what's the difference?

  32. Wow well that Torn Curtain release was unexpected and cool. Fulfilling another of those “wouldn’t it be great if they could release the rejected and used scores in a single package” fantasies that often crop up in discussion but are typically too more in logistics or licensing to be achieved. Yet here we are. And undoubtedly a grail for Herrmann fans (myself included) although John Addison’s replacement is very enjoyable but doesn’t hit the dark dramatic notes of Herrmann (inevitably perhaps!).

  41. Turns out Clone X was And that's okay, 'cause everything else was superb, I was at the edge of my seat for the entirety of the episode (and thank god it was a longer one), they pulled no punches and had probably the most shots per person in Star Wars. The Batch becoming such an important part of SW history wasn't really on my bingo card, but they did it in such a way that it remained very personal, and my eyes teared up when the clone said "I have one more fight in me", the clones are my weakness and I'm really happy that they had time for development in that department, though by the epilogue, it seems Echo died in battle 'cause he's not in Rebels and also not on Pabu. And speaking of the epilogue... having Hunter and Omega be the focus was a bit underwhelming for me, Rebels did it so well, but seeing Omega grown up and revealing that the Batch lived in Pabu all the way to the rebellion was good on its own. The music throughout was probably the best of the series, can't wait for the album. I'll miss this show so much and I really hope that the next animated Star Wars comes fast (I'm not talking about Tales), because this show continues to prove that Star Wars is at its best when it's animated.

That's weird, Richard, most real Kubrick fans call Spartacus not a Kubrick but a Kirk Douglas movie. It usually ends at the bottom of the list. That means your not a Kubrick fan, Richard, it's the only logical conclusion. Ah, I see you're a connoisseur! Eyes Wide Shut is so underrated!

  43. Can't over-emphasize how great this score is. I have literally listened to Movements 1 & 2 over and over again for the past two weeks, sometimes well over 20 times a day. At least it'll be high on my Spotify rankings for the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra - Intrada - how about ensuring Young gets credited for this fully? To me, this score is like those fantastic dark choral and orchestral scores of the early 1990s that one had to hunt for. There were very few at the time, mostly by folks like Young, Elfman, McKenzie, Stone etc. The large majority were shoddy synclavier efforts. When scores like this came along, one would listen to them endlessly. Not like the media-saturated contemporary moment. I guess for us film score fans, the media-saturated contemporary moment does not mean much since most of Hollywood stuff, at least, is total dreck. Even self-confessed score fans like Brian Tyler pump out nonsense in endlessly endless 'records'. The Jevons Paradox at play - the more we have available, the less useful it is. Here, a sustained, beautiful, flowing, melodic orchestral work like The Piper is absolute and total gold.
