I'm sure the music branch are just as frustrated as us that he hasn't won since 1994. The best they can do is acknowledge him with nominations and that's fine with me. It's pretty obvious he isn't winning another competitive Oscar; I think that final ship sailed with Fabelmans. Popular Post crumbs 15,507
Amazing how every Lucasfilm movie JW has scored since the Disney acquisition has received an Oscar nomination. The nominations are always more fun than the winners I'm seeing people more annoyed with Williams this year than usual I do think there was a lot of hope Joe Hisaishi could have gotten his first which would have been great. I really, really thought this was gonna be a skip year but truly very little can get in the way of JW and his Original Score parking spot. Popular Post Toillion 387
I hate to see the negativity he is getting for being nominated though. Just imagine what people would say if he won. I think it's pretty dumb that people are mad that he has so many noms over the years. Not Mr. Big 4,815
I think it's also because it's the score for Dial of Destiny. If it has been like TFA where the film and score are generally well received then there would be a lot less backlash. DOD very much feels like an obligatory nomination. Popular Post Richard P 4,767
I think the negativity is people being (a) honest, and (b) much more objective than JWFanners are. Looking back, I personally think the idea of Fabelmans or DoD being considered the best score of the year is ludicrous, whereas him not receiving recognition for anything post 1993 is also ludicrous (for example, I think in 2001 he was unfortunate to be up against Shore). There's a balance that's being observed by most people, but not by people who think Williams is still at the top of his game... which in my humble view, he isn't, and I heavily suspect voters are about to demonstrate that. He should have a lifetime achievement award in the bag for sure... but suggesting every year for the last decade that whatever he does is still automatically better than anyone else because he's Williams? Isn't that pretty much what a fanboy does? Thornhill, Not Mr. Big and Davis
