Intrada loves Peter Bernstein (they released his magnum opus, Rough Riders, which also deserves an expansion) and frankly his two Ewok scores are probably something Disney/Lucasfilm is likely to be willing to give them rights to first, before the Williams Star Wars scores. But they could be a very important stepping stone, just as Willow was no doubt a stepping stone to Solo!

I absolutely agree with this.  Further, I’d argue that Bernstein’s scores would be far more listenable than Britell’s score for Andor or Holt’s Kenobi (two scores I would not give the time of day had they not been attached to Star Wars. )

 

Im happy for the fans of Kiner & Co., who will likely get some mileage out of this. 
 

But Powell’s score is in a different stratosphere than most of what I predict is coming.  They are starting with a bang.

I guess I went into Andor with low expectations considering all the backlash in the film music community... but I actually not only loved the series itself but really loved the use of music throughout. That diegetic funeral procession music in the final episode was unique and good stuff in particular. I'd probably buy Andor on CD. Same probably goes for the first two seasons of The Mandalorian, honestly.

 

But I'd draw the line at Obi-Wan I think. I liked some of Holt's cues and would be curious to hear what she came up with for original main theme before Williams, but I gotta say that overall her work on the series is a far, FAR cry from her amazing scoring for LOKI. Maybe she was bad casting for Star Wars or maybe she was just given poor instruction and the showrunners wanted music like she delivered...

I'd love to see William Loose's work for 1977's The Making of Star Wars released. It's mostly adaptations of Williams material but some of the recordings are brilliant. I've always loved the force theme statement for the section on Alec Guinness.

I actually kind of like Bernstein's scores. The performances/recordings aren't necessarily the greatest, but the music itself is pretty good imo.

Agree! Those are actually pretty good despite sounding like they were recorded with a 10-piece orchestra!

Oh I jest, but you're probably right that Disney/Lucasfilm would be more than willing to let Intrada release them, as well they should as these have just as much a right to get expanded as any other film, just personally would like the Saga films to see some love first (especially the PT).

It's extremely unlikely Lucasilm would gave given them rights in perpetuity, since all of John's Star Wars and Indiana Jones scores did not have perpetuity rights ever granted (which is how Disney now controls them all)

Could not agree more. I have wanted these scores for SO long. I once talked to Peter years ago and he said they were going to come out. Then a few years later he said he wanted to try to re-record them first. But that was a very long time now, on both accounts. At this point I just want the scores as heard from the films, rather than not at all.

I just found out that Peter Serafinowicz actually recorded the lines for Darth Maul in Solo but then they went with Sam Witwer at the last moment. I have mixed feelings about this.

Hmmm i wouldnt have minded either. But supposedly maul was going to be important in the sequel so he would talk more. And truth be told witver has hours of maul voice acting while serafinowicz only had a few lines in TPM.
