I wouldn't count on Lisbon and Singapore actually being a thing in this way - perhaps there are concerts with his music scheduled there, but without him personally? Let's hope the Ax piano concerto is a fact. While there are a few orchestra in there, and the Gulbenkian Orchestra is quite good, I don't see them on the same level of the orchestras Williams would conduct like the ones in Vienna and Berlin. Might have been a poor research thing (the Gulbenkian Orchestra just announced their 22/23 season and includes Return of the Jedi live) were he assumed a program of his music is to be conducted by the composer himself JTN, crumbs, Marian Schedenig and 3 others

Popular Post mrbellamy 6,287
I like him reiterating that he's not exactly trying to say "I quit" when he says "I quit" lol. That's classic Williams evasiveness. It reminds me of him saying Rise of Skywalker would be "quite enough" for him and then he throws a bone to Obi-Wan anyway. "From a certain point of view!" I said this on the thread in the NYT piece too but the "tennis" quote here doubly makes me feel like he's just hedging his bets at 90 when he says stuff like this. Spielberg was also quoted in that NYT piece as saying he felt "pretty secure" about Williams continuing. I am still looking at Indy 5 as his final movie. But I feel like there's a spectrum between him giving a few weeks to a Spielberg drama on one end and a fourth Star Wars trilogy on the other where we could be surprised, given the also surprising event that he works until he's 100. Popular Post Marian Schedenig 8,193
I'd say that until now, Williams has considered himself a "film composer", i.e. a composer who naturally does at least some of his work for film. After Indy 5, he isn't going to do that any longer, i.e. he will just be a composer of concert works, not actively looking for film work. If a film project comes along that interests him, he may still decide to do it, just like any other commission, but he will no longer actively seek out films as a basis for his work. Not that he's been doing that much over the past decade, I'd say, but perhaps it hasn't been an entirely planned decision until now. mrbellamy, ConorPower, Giftheck and 2 others

Bayesian 1,363
It would be nice to see JW score one more Spielberg-directed theatrical film after Fabelmans to make it an indisputable 30 director/composer collabs. But there is already a beautiful poignancy to appreciate about their professional relationship if their last collab is the Spielberg semi-biographical Fabelmans—even if Spielberg should someday direct a film and JW declines to score it or, God forbid, is not around any longer to score it. It’d be hard to come up with a more poetic conclusion. As far as I’m concerned, two Spielberg-produced films that were originally supposed to be directed by same count as one Spielberg-directed movie. Which means with Indy5, they made it to 30. To which, Spielberg will say, "I know, but he is retired and writing 'concert music.' However, anytime I visit all he is doing is hanging out with Anne and Daisy.
