Popular Post King Mark 3,907 Posted September 12, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 12, 2022 So it's some kind of Spielberg autobiography. I predicts the best parts of the score will be the "quotes" from some of his movies like Raiders and E.T. All of them will be unreleased on the album crumbs, BB-8, Chewy and 3 others 6
Chewy 2,778 Posted September 12, 2022 Author Posted September 12, 2022 You'll never change @King Mark
Jay 44,694 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I wonder why Universal granted a music license to Milan Records instead of releasing it under their own Backlot Records?
Alex 3,000 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Is this news significant in any way? (This is a genuine question, I’m not an expert on labels etc)
Jay 44,694 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 I would say no, not really. JW likely constructed the same album program he would for any label. Actually I just thought of something, maybe the album will include some of the source songs used in the movie, so it had to come out on a major music label and not Universal's internal one? I dunno. Jay 44,694 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Right - I wonder why they didn't want to distribute it?

GerateWohl 6,359 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 Please a double CD! One Disk score, second disk songs. Not again that mishmash.
Popular Post Luke Skywalker 2,289 Posted September 13, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2022 Can’t wait for the expanded release in my deathbed! 😔 BB-8, Brando and Edmilson 3
Bespin Copilot 10,285 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 @GerateWohl read again my previous posts and lower ALL your expectations concerning the score, even about an eventual Oscar nomination. GerateWohl and Falstaft 1 1
King Mark 3,907 Posted September 13, 2022 Posted September 13, 2022 My expectations for the OST albums are ALWAYS low. Most realistic prediction: It will be a short score so most of it will fit on the c.d. and we might even get unused music. But that lush orchestral passage in the film's finale everyone here will praise as the best bit will be unreleased.

Bayesian 1,575 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 I wonder if any of the classical piano pieces that diagetically appear in the film will be on the Milan soundtrack. If yes, I hope they’ll be performed originally—either by Michelle Williams, if she’s a competent pianist, or (ideally) by JW himself. Almost anything her character would perform in the film would likely be in the public domain, so that’d surely make things easier on the licensing end of things.
Sunshine Reger 3,697 Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Wouldn't it be lovely to have a curated album of some Chopin, piano arrangements of old songs, and Williams tracks designed to fit with them? Especially if they are a bit like the finale of Lincoln:

jwfan06 561 Posted September 16, 2022 Posted September 16, 2022 Is there a release date yet? Will it be released digitally?

Of course it will be released digitally. In this day and age the question is, will a new release OST be released physically. For JW the answer is probably still Yes. For most composers, it's increasingly No.

Like I said above, I'll be very surprised if that trend applies to JW. I think he's basically the only film composer working who's still guaranteed a non-limited major label CD release for a new score in 2022.

Popular Post pete 1,291 Posted October 27, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 27, 2022 Two weeks to go. I'd lost track of that. Arg the stages of excitment a new Williams score: 1. announcement 2. filming starts 3. filming finishes 4. starts scoring 4.5 if we're lucky Williams talks about his progress. 5. finishes scoring 6. Soundtrack announced 7. Release date announced (sometimes included in stage 6) 8. Track titles! 9. Track lengths! 10. The first listen. 11. Initial disaapointment - not what I was expecting, how could it be? - New kid on the block doesn't belong. 12. Then I realize it's great and it feels part of his canon. 13. Listen for about a month 14. Life returns to normal but it's better because there's more Williams music. When I started it was just 1. See Williams name on a poster 2. Look for soundtrack 3. Buy soundtrack 4. See the movie maybe. or 1. See Williams name on a soundtrack while browsing the OST section of a record shop. I'm so old! 2.
