  1. I love The Patriot! 1:00 - 2:00 is just some classic 90s style Williams action writing and then the final minute is so gorgeous. Classic track.

  2. Difficult choice, they're all great. But I actually think it would have to be Elfman's "The Hunt" from the POTA remake. A couple of other great ones not on the list: "The Hunt" from THE HISTORY OF ETERNITY (Preisner) "The Hunt" from TWISTER (Mancina) "The Hunt" from FREE WILLY 3 (Eidelman) "The Hunt" from BRIDESHEAD REVISITED (Burgon) "The Hunt" from LADY JANE (Oliver) -- this is Jurassic Shark's favourite.

  7. It’s not historically accurate by any means but I definitely wouldn’t classify it as a “shitty movie”

  8. I think the show is havin quite a success and I am personally really liking it for what it is. It's obvious there's a bigger narrative going on and people should just wait and see things slowly unfold, as they have been doing these last three episodes As for the score, it's not something I would really listen to outside the show, but in it, I think it works great, with each episode making homage to a particular era. First was the 50's and the 60's and this week with the 70's and I think Beck's score and the theme songs are great! I love that from time to time Beck also manages to introduce some more modern sounds when this "illusion" starts to fade. I think this is what Marvel should do from now on. Try new things and go many different paths from what they have already done

  9. Wow that guy's pretty annoying. He should probably consider researching and planning his approach to the video topic instead of just winging it.

  10. I know nothing about Biden and Harris's knowledge of anything (this year's election was not exactly populated by intellectual heavyweights), but I do think Obama's affection for Williams is real. I find the video below touching.

  11. It was listed as a live broadcast, so I couldn't get timestamps then. No problems now, though! American Journey: The Patriot:

  13. Obviously the Williams wins. I'm not saying that this belongs in the poll but the score for Downton Abbey (the series) is generally kind of underrated and it has its own excellent cue titled "The Hunt"

  17. We were talking about FAMILY MAN earlier. Here's my ol' CD-R of that, with custom design by Jim Titus (before he hit it big). Makes me long for a proper, commercial release:

  19. Nah, but it's cool. Can't find it on youtube and it's only partially included in the Suite. Anyway, PotA is my pick!

  22. All releases since at least the 90s Rhino have been in stereo (I don't know any of the earlier ones). I still haven't heard the McNeely (it's the one McNeely Herrmann I really want but missed), but I've heard several other recordings of the main title fandango, and none of them felt quite right. They're either too slow and without energy, or rushed. And that includes the Salonen recording (the rest of his album is fabulous). I have a feeling not even Gerhardt would have gotten it right for my taste.

  24. It's possible it happened in transit so that the suit of armour was empty by the time it was put on the pyre, but definitely not at the moment of his death when Luke says goodbye to him, because he has to lug his corpse into a lambda shuttle

  25. Other than writing inconsistencies, all I can suggest as an in-universe explanation for why Jedi bodies don't disappear the moment they die is that maybe it takes a while for the 'soul' to let go before a Jedi becomes one with the Force? Likely not, they probably just wanted to have a funeral scene ala Darth Vader, who is another case of someone not vanishing immediately upon death. That being said, he's probably an exception given he was redeemed right at the end and is the chosen one. Another possible explanation is that Obi Wan was so ready to die that he was able to just instantly transcend. I dunno, interesting to theorise about though Looking at the fight again, there's this moment here (1:29) Obi Wan jumps back up to the platform and starts booking it towards Maul, given that there were no obstacles in his way he should've used Force Speed here if it was one of his abilities - then he never would've gotten separated from Qui Gon and they would've likely been able to take out Maul

  29. To put my money where my mouth is, I came across this interesting article on the subject: https://deepfakenow.com/hollywood-deepfake-movies/ Some of the points are...dubious, such as when they make the claim that the deep fake process would take longer to render than full CGI on render farms which just doesn’t add up at all - but it raises some valid points too I should also point out, that much of the same ethical concerns and fear towards faking technology were made during the advent of Adobe Photoshop, and now it has become normalised in society. Whether you consider that good or not is another question, but it’s something to think about in terms of future integration Also, in classic human style, 99% of deepfake videos from Sep 2019 to March 2020 are...pornographic, so the ‘fake news’ pandemic at least for now is extremely small comparatively Last thing I’ll close out on is a quote from someone with 27 years as a VFX specialist. He brings up a point I didn’t consider before, which is the ability to respond to directorial feedback:

  35. I’m rationally annoyed at the inexplicable widespread ignorance towards this particular topic If you had particular knowledge of something, or at the very least valued trying to understand something before jumping to conclusions - would you not be annoyed at persistently seeing people not bothering to understand it and giving such well thought out reasoning as ‘it just is’? Its the repetitiveness that gets to me, like people can only focus on the result and not the process I think it’s an interesting topic and more than worth discussion, but I just ask for more than grabbing a random deepfake someone did and a random CGI human (especially if it’s before the development of deepfakes) and declaring one looks better and that VFX companies should be using that tech instead To this day I still haven’t seen an equivalent comparison, and I would love to be provided with one because I want to compare the tech in an isolated way to better identify pros and cons It is deeply ironic that you call this a Luddite attitude considering your entire position is formed from what defines that attitude, a refusal to understand technology.

  39. Was really excited to hear a new recording of the Main Titles Fanfare! I never really liked the opening TFA's version. Just curious, does anyone know why this different version of the Main Title from a TLJ scoring session (video below) was not was not used in the final version of TLJ? That last Reddit link is from a subreddit that represents one of the most toxic portions of the Star Wars fanbase. I would take it (especially the part about Disney trying to sabotage Abrams) with a grain of salt. It seems these #ReleaseTheJJCut (or in DC's was #ReleaseTheSnyderCut) campaigns are simply a sign of a modern mindset that everything has to be exactly how you want. No longer can a clumsy movie be made, there has to be a huge conspiracy behind it. The modern mindset doesn't allow these people to just take what we got but rather hold on to false hope that somewhere out there exists a "better" version of the film that was stolen from us. Its all really toxic tbh.
