THE POST - SCORE Thread
Ricard and 3 others reacted to TheUlyssesian for a topic
Reviews a few overly sentimental third-act scenes ... make extra use of John Williams’ immediate score Another excellent score comes to us from John Williams The story is adequately dramatic without ... John Williams's overpowering score, thank you very much. Most of Spielberg’s crew have worked with him for a number of years, including the legendary John Williams. The composer, working under a time crunch, comes through with another top-notch score–this one feels restrained but comes through in a strong way when needed. John Williams' score is quite good. The combination of the adventurous Spielbergian lens and a dynamite John Williams score jazzes up the most mundane newspaper conventions, from a copy editor striking words with a red pen to trucks rolling out with first editions. If only the same heroic anthems accompanied the writing of a movie review. John Williams’ horn-heavy score (creating either tension or heroic awe, as needed) Spielberg can’t help but turn The Post into a “message movie.” He rises to our current moment on stilts, with a megaphone and a swelling John Williams score. he notable score was provided by the legendary John Williams4 points -

"The Dialogue" is such an integral piece of the musical storytelling for me. I understand not everyone feels that way, though.2 points

I think it's a pretty normal thing for people to look for appreciation and acknowledgement. Doesn't matter whether you're 8 or 85. Is it really so hard to accept that for Williams awards can be an important thing, even if it's not the driving force behind him writing music?2 points

Brace yourselves... The Last Jedi soundtrack will leak any day. Will you listen to it?
Henry Sítrónu and one other reacted to Not Mr. Big for a topic
I'm taking a hiatus from JWFan and internet browsing in general until release. I started 3 days ago. I'd hardly call a leak lucky. It was especially shitty for TFA as the intial negativity decreased my excitement for the film and score and all of the youtube leaks were low quality half-tempo rips.2 points -
He has said repeatedly that as long as he is able, he will work.2 points

I doubt it will be his final film score, though it will probably be his last score for a Star Wars film.2 points

Nah, JW's 85 is like an ordinary mortals 65. His brain and endurance is top notch and he is so revered by the suits that he gets to review all music from projects he isn't attached to if it deals with Star Wars music. Gordy Haab said all music for Battlefront II had a six week review cycle which included 2 weeks for the game developers, 2 weeks for Disney, and 2 weeks for John Williams if he wanted to review any of it. He is still very much involved in any detail he cares to weigh in on.2 points

What Is The Last Score You Listened To? (older scores)
Marian Schedenig reacted to crocodile for a topic
Close Encounters of the Third Kind by John Williams. The new set, of course. Might not be his most popular score but it certainly might be his greatest musical achievement in the art form of scoring films. In fact it's among the finest pieces of 20th century symphonic writing. Karol1 point -

Which JW theme would you like to have expanded into a concert arrangement?
Disco Stu reacted to Jurassic Shark for a topic

Williams recorded it with the Boston Pops in 1980. Here's Kunzel with the Cincinnati Pops1 point

Great question. Qui-Gon's Funeral would be cool... so would Qui-Gon's theme! I always loved that theme and wished it was used more. I know a lot of people here would have liked a concert version of Tintin's theme. I wish he would have released Irina's Theme and Window to the Past on their respective original albums. But at least concert versions do exist. The same goes for Jedi Steps I suppose, although Lockhart's recording is satisfying.1 point

Williams has repeatedly said he will continuing composing until he cannot, and he has said he is always excited to do a film that speaks to him. Unless we are disregarding what he has told us, why would we think/speculate otherwise?1 point

I've seen exactly two films that I thought benefited from the 3D experience...Avatar and Gravity. I thought they were both incredibly immersive watching that way, but both lost a lot for me watching in 2D at home. They worked in 3D because they were designed pretty much to be a 3D experience. Otherwise, I think it's a distraction.1 point
