I’m surprised I haven’t seen it mentioned in this thread that the score also very much expands the Star Wars sound scape. It uses a lot more electronic instruments (especially around Jabba’s palace), there’s all the world-ish percussion with the Ewoks, and, of course, the famous choral part during the final duel. All that makes Jedi sound really distinct to me.4 points

Similar to @Datameister's thought, Though it may not be definitive Page 26 of Chris Malones often cited and excellent "Recording the Star Wars Saga" Has some great insight on the sound of the Jedi SE's. Below is just a snippit. https://www.malonedigital.com/starwars.pdf4 points

The Rise of Skywalker Appreciation Thread (film & score)
Bofur01 and 3 others reacted to TheAvengerButton for a topic
The thing I appreciate most about The Rise of Skywalker is that it affirms a big theme of the entire series that was established all the way back in The Phantom Menace--the idea that you can't and shouldn't always rely on a governing body to take care of all of your problems for you. Queen Amidala learns that the thing she was putting all of her hopes in--the Republic--was never going to be able to help her rescue her people. So what did she do? She did it herself. Her sin through the rest of the trilogy was that she didn't learn from that experience--instead of continuing that independence of thought, she bought into the Republic wholesale foolishly hoping to change it from within. This lesson is continued in a big way with the Rebellion--despite their mission being to restore the Republic, which is still an admirable position to take. The Rebellion was an alliance of different rebellions and when Jyn Erso learned that she couldn't rely on the Rebellion to help her take the Death Star plans she formed her own coilition to take them herself, and in doing so she inspired the rest of the Rebellion to shed their fear and make a move. In The Force Awakens, it is Leia who forms her own breakaway organization--The Resistence--after she learns that she can't rely on the Republic to save itself from the threat of the First Order. And the Resistance struggles to inspire the free peoples of the Galaxy to stand up for themselves instead of living in fear--until the final moments of The Rise of Skywalker when the Resistance does what Leia did, what Jyn Erso did, what Padme did before them--they showed the Galaxy through their leadership that evil could be stood up to without having a crutch and relying on a power that is unwilling to help itself. Whether this was intentional (and on some level, it is because it's baked into the story, but what I mean by this statement is 'whether this is a call back to the specific ideas brought up in the Prequels and the original films/Rogue One') remains to be seen, but it works so well as the conclusion to a thematic arc that starts all the way back in Episode I.4 points -

Exactly, sorry if my comments were conflicting, but it was more to highlight that there might be a drawback due to the drama between Theory and Pablo. Ultimately if we can get both Theory and Mauler to premote this petition on stream and on social media it could reach many people who are willing to sign. I believe they stream on a Monday, so if things are quite at work I can try a superchat and ask them to share this petition and hopefully get some momentum going.3 points -

I also think the LSO outclasses the LA group. The LSO brass is still outstanding, but it was a murderer's row of world class talent in the early 2000s. The strings were also much better. I would have loved it if the ST scores had gotten recorded with them.3 points -

Until recently I've not been familiar with Star Wars Theory as a channel. But have been watching his streams with Mauler and it was in maybe episode 4 or 5 of Star Grift that Theory showed Mauler his drama videos get the most views these days. Plus in the latest stream it was highlighted that Pablo Hidalgo HATES Theory, so with Hidalgo still working for Lucasfilm getting Theory to premote this petition might get his feathers ruffled and having someone within Lucasfilm that might try to suppress this petition because of personal politics could ultimately be detrimental to the cause.3 points -
What Makes Return of the Jedi sound the way that it does?

@Bellosh Are you listening to the OST, the Anthology, or the SE? The ROTJ SE is missing the higher frequencies, resulting in a muffled sound. I don't know that a definitive, detailed explanation for this has ever been given.3 points -

Evan Call - Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Thanks to @Muad'Dib and @Holko for pointing out this one. I listened to it today and liked it so much, I listened to it again right after. I can't say any melodies from it are stuck in my head now, however I can say I enjoyed every minute of it while I was listening. It really felt like a throwback to older styles. you are right about all that....except for one thing... I don't think it sounds inferior to ANH....maybe in an audiophile sense it does or 'technically' speaking in the same way one needs to accept that Raiders is technically and critically the best movie out of the 5.... But ROTJ is actually my favorite sounding Star Wars score. I have no idea how to describe how it sounds! i guess yeah you are right, but even the 3 prequels and 3 sequel trilogies all kinda sound the same at times? it seems ANH, ESB and ROTJ all have their own sound. i honestly apologize for not being able to say anything else besides sound, i have 0 musical knowledge. but i love ROTJ.2 points

Star Wars Prequel VS. Sequel scores
Cerebral Cortex and one other reacted to Chen G. for a topic
I used to be a stickler for that, too. But more and more I realise that the power of these themes is in their capacity for change. That's what funny about motive lists with names, is people try and find a name that "covers all the bases" so to speak, but the fact of the matter is that a theme can mean X and then come to mean Y only later. Obviously not all musico-poetic developments are going to feel as warranted or as succesfull to all people, but in this case it doesn't really bother me in and of itself. I think that, looking beyond the individual themes, the Star Wars scores are built on a kind of binary opposition in music: there's the "good guy music" (the Jedi and Rebels/Republic) and "bad guy music" (The Sith and the Separatists/Empire). They're juxtaposed all throughout, and then at the end of Return of the Jedi, the good guys' music clearly wins. Once its won, its over.2 points
