John Williams returns for Indiana Jones 5

I think JW will write a fantastic score that will surpass Crystal Skull. Working with a new director might lead to an Azkaban-tier effort where JW was firing on all cylinders.5 points -

RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
enderdrag64 and 2 others reacted to BrotherSound for a topic
Despite being the Star Wars film that had the most music recorded—an astonishing 226 minutes!—The Rise of Skywalker must set a new record for tracking in the Star Wars films, borrowing over 7 minutes of music from 4 other episodes. There's more than 3 minutes from TFA, over 2 minutes from TLJ, about 1:30 from ROTS, and 0:45 from ROTJ. And even though there was already 6 minutes of tracked music in the November 11th cut, still more was added afterwards. I recently realized that part of the scene of Rey healing the snake appears to be tracked with 0M8 Saying Goodbye to the Fathier from The Last Jedi. Oddly, the excerpt in TROS is actually at the correct pitch; it was raised a half-step in TLJ (from the written C major to C-sharp). Here's a comparison:3 points -

RESTORED ISOLATED SCORE: Star Wars Saga (Unused Music Restored To Picture)
michael_grig and 2 others reacted to BrotherSound for a topic
I was surprised to discover how much longer the OST version of 'We Go Together' from TROS is, even accounting for how the two parts (2M6 The Medal and 2M7 Ship Trip) were separated in the film, though it seems pretty clear the original intention was for them to overlap as they do on the OST. I'm fairly certain that unused march section was meant to accompany a brief deleted scene of Maz and Leia watching the Falcon depart: this exact dialogue is found in both the novelization from Rae Carson and junior novelization from Michael Kogge, and—in my opinion—seems to fit this bit of music perfectly. I'm less certain about the longer first section: there's a brief exchange between Rey and Rose here in Rey Carson's novelization, yet it's still longer than seems to fit. I've cut quite a bit of it out. The title of 2M6 The Medal is also a mystery, because there is notably no shot of Han's medal anywhere in this scene in the finished film. My speculation is that perhaps that opening flourish accompanied a shot of it. Notably, a similar flourish accompanies the appearance of Leia's saber much later in the film (in 7M10 Leia's Sabre, the last part of 'Destiny of a Jedi'). Or maybe the medal was glimpsed later when Rey and Leia say their goodbyes.3 points -
Of the 100% confirmed works. I have combined to the two celebratory pieces to give them a fighting chance. There also might be the percussion piece and the new Spielberg movie, but the first one seems unlikely and the second is TBD. I am excited about all of the confirmed works, but Indy is at the bottom of the list. I think the violin concerto could really be special. I think he probably poured his heart and soul into the VPO piece. What fascinates me about the piano prelude is whether this becomes a 20 minutes unified piece inclusive of the scherzo. If so, I wonder if he has reworked the scherzo to bring it in line with the prelude.2 points

I don’t have much of an input on the new movie since we know zip about it, but I think it’d be super cool if it opened like Temple of Doom did(my favorite one), with the Indy typeface and music that introduces the title, versus the other 3 movies where the titles just pops up and the music is still slow and introducing itself. I want something loud and and glorious.2 points

Brilliant work, @BrotherSound. Heard in the right context, like this, you can really tell how much Williams knocked it out of the park in TROS when it came to emotionally satisfying, musically coherent long spans of densely thematic underscore.2 points -
Wow, hard to choose ! Funny thing is I've actually covered them both And they are both absolutely delightful themes to play2 points

They don't have a story they want to tell, they just have an Indy 5 they want to make. Standard Hollywood practice. I'm guessing it'll be perfectly watchable and inoffensive and will somehow create a renaissance of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull appreciation online.1 point

The film is very smart. It doesn't have the depth of the T.V. show, but it's still very good. THE REMAINS OF THE DAY should have romped off, with Oscars for Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Original Score, Best Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Costume Design. It's a work of art.1 point -

I feel the opposite apparently. I think the show is strongest when it's not trying to shoehorn in an action scene. Sure. They're cool, but I actually find the story very intriguing. I don't really care about the action and I don't feel like they need to force any. Only one that felt earned was the finale of this week's episode.1 point

Hans Zimmer's WONDER WOMAN 1984 (2020)
Tiburon reacted to HunterTech for a topic
Flawed analogy. The SW example came within the same score where all the material was being introduced, whereas we had full years for us to sit with the BvS material before it got used in WW84. There is a lot of intrigue in trying to figure out what Williams was exactly going for with that particular scene in ANH. Zimmer fully deciding to just keep it from the temp track wholesale because it's the "same universe" leaves little to the imagination, and just makes you wonder how the man goes about making these sorts of decisions often. At least with the Pompeii track at the end, the arrangement is changed enough to where it fits in solidly with the rest of the score. Beautiful Lie essentially is just needle dropped, and I feel it's particularly frustrating because the following track (The Beauty In What Is) manages to capture the exact same emotions of that cue in its own way (particularly the alt version on the complete).1 point -

I've only heard Hidden Figures once, and I thought it was okay. Need to revisit it soon. The score for the Lion King remake was as great in 2019 as it was in 1994, lol. Yeah, the score is much better than that movie deserves. Zimmer tells the story through his music better than the screenwriters.1 point -
Marion's theme vs Princess Leia's theme
Edmilson reacted to Datameister for a topic
I'll give it to Leia's theme, but Marion's theme is very, very good as well. Both of them are much better at broadly evoking the old-fashioned adventures these films emulate than they are at specifically representing these characters. Leia's theme just pushes it a little further, in a good way.1 point -
Maybe more unpopular opinion: I care FAR more about a new Indy score more than I care for another Indy movie at this point I realized after this announcement Friday that I was somehow not super familiar with his CRYSTAL SKULL score. I revisited/listened to it again Friday and was (almost) surprised how solid/good it is! It's not a sexy "introduce several new amazing themes" type of score (though the 'crystal skull' motif is striking!), but the score works well for the film and there are some great moments. IMO his score is easily the highlight of the entire film (though the campus chase scene is a legit Spielberg all-timer as far as staging and the way it's shot)1 point

Hi, sorry for the slow response to the recent posts on this thread. I've had my head down editing and proofreading The Iron Giant, which is coming along very nicely (see below)! You're right about having access to the original manuscript, and also about podium changes. I did try to catch everything but if you have any specifics you want to let me know about, please drop me a PM and I'll review them for any future reprints. With regard to the Engine Room sound in 9m1 it is there, but it's just a low rumble. With regards to shipping prices, both Tim at Omni Music Publishing and myself are well aware of that being a deciding factor for some, though the potential "solutions" aren't really that great either. It's unfortunate that a combination of the book size, paper weight and retail value (for import tax if it is charged where you are) can lead to a high total price. Neither of us add anything to the shipping price, you're paying what it costs and unfortunately that may mean a test of how much you want the book. Both of us have worked hard to find solutions that keep the costs as low as possible. The alternatives of printing or shipping stock overseas and storing/fulfilling "local" orders from these locations would still incur a cost to us that we would have to pass along to you. It might be different if we were selling in the kind of volumes that big online retailers do, that we could absorb that cost, but this is a very niche market and we are essentially "boutique" publishers. Finally, with regards to publishing Star Wars, it'd be a dream, but publishing full scores by John Williams is simply off the table at the moment due to licensing restrictions. That's true of a few specific composers and specific film franchises. Thankfully there are enough other interesting, beautiful and exciting scores out there to keep the like of Tim and I busy for a very long time! Personally, I have The Iron Giant and Independence Day coming over the Spring/Summer, with other titles that I'm not ready to announce yet lined up right through to the end of 2022.1 point -
