  1. There shall in that time be rumors of Star Wars master tapes going astray, erm, and there shall be a great confusion as to where they really are, and nobody will really know where lieth those little things with the sort of raffia-work base, that has an attachment.

  2. Hey all. I uploaded a newer piece on youtube and was hoping if you guys listened to it and liked it that you would help me out with thumbs up for algorithm purposes. The piece was called Baba Yaga when we recorded it in 2019 but it's officially called Death of Koschei the Deathless now. I wasn't allowed to share it all until it had a world premiere and that happened 18th of Feb. Much Love and Thanks!

  3. My first conscious experience with Goldsmith's music was going to see The Mummy with friends back in 1999. I wasn't necessarily a fan right off the bat, but I definitely noticed the music in the film and it stuck in my head. Before that, I was obviously familiar with his Enterprise theme from TNG shows. My first Goldsmith album was Star Trek: Insurrection which I bought somewhere in 2001. Karol

  13. Well, got one Section 7. Might be obstructed view as it was much cheaper than others ($99 vs $159), but gets me in the Shed and I can always upgrade at the last minute. I would only have paid full price right away for a Section 1 seat in the first few rows.

  14. Was just listening to Mancina's second Planes score (which are both great btw) He wrote a comedic march for some characters and it's very familiar to the start of a very famous theme from another animated film. Those tubas are crazily alike!

  15. Just got back from the concert! My brother and I attended the show together. Before the show, I was wondering how the various bits of the Main Title were going to be handled, particularly with the strings on the Third Sentence. (The Film Version has the violins play low for the first phrase of the Third Sentence before going an octave up for the second phrase, while the early ANH takes and all recordings made after the original sessions have the strings start on the higher register for the first phrase) What the strings here did was start in the lower register, but go to the higher octave a whole bar before the original Film Version did, something like this: Star Wars In Concert Main Title Demo.mp3 No subsequent forceful timpani after this (consistent with post-'77 performances, but inaccurate to the ANH sessions), and I think they did the Strong Tatooine Reveal as well. At first, I clapped silently at the end of every cue, but after I clapped a little louder at the end of Binary Sunset (with Owen looking for Luke) my brother told me to stop, since nobody else was doing it. I did audibly clap at the end of TIE Fighter Attack, though; that one deserved it. My brother and I were the only ones clapping at that. During the intermission, I got to hear one of the musicians have a conversation with two of the audience members. The musician shared a story about how the show handled the Cantina Band cues. He said they used to perform them live, but it wound up getting too difficult for the clarinetist to perform live alongside the rest of the score, and hiring a separate band to do them for a film that only had two source cues in the middle would be too expensive. This show played the original Cantina Band cues through the speakers. I guess I probably should've expected it, but I was a little disappointed when they didn't perform the Dianoga music or the first part of the Trash Compactor music. Refreshingly, most of the audience stayed during the whole credits. At the very end, we clapped for each section of the orchestra. The strings got the loudest applause, and I gotta say they deserved it tonight.

  22. In The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…. The series stars Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss. The Acolyte comes from creator and showrunner Leslye Headland (Russian Doll), who also serves as executive producer alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, and Jason Micallef. Charmaine DeGraté and Kor Adana are the co-executive producers; Rayne Roberts, Damian Anderson, Rob Bredow, and Eileen Shim are producing. https://www.starwars.com/news/the-acolyte-teaser-poster

  23. For me, yes! I was refreshing the page constantly, like once per second, and the button finally appeared exactly where you'd expect. I think it was pretty well timed to appear right at 10. I didn't have to wait in any virtual queues or anything, but then I went in afterward and bought a ticket for Tanglewood on Parade, and that one had a queue.

    Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon

Its kind of important to have these trash film series. We have such amazing and seminal film series...but they wouldn't be nearly as awesome were it not for having a kind of nexus in the form of patently trash film series as their counterparts.

  25. Nice score! The main theme heard in the first track is quite memorable, and I really like its different arrangements across the album. The fantasy stuff is definitely the best part of the score, because when it veers into action/atmospheric territory in the middle section it lost me a bit, but some trimming should leave a really enjoyable listening experience. Nothing groundbreaking but entertaining and really pretty at times, and a much better score than this (quite mediocre) film deserved!

  32. With absolutely nothing to do in a boring weekend, I tried to watch Gen V. It was terrible. I couldn't get through the first episode. Abysmal writing and CW-level, shit-tier acting, which ruins a lot of shows that seemed like they have a good premise. Happens a lot with teen casts. None of the characters are interesting, none of the plotlines are interesting. It's boring as fuck. It's CW levels of shit. If you cut out the gore and sex it's just teens talking about muh feelings and muh problems. I have better ways to spend an hour.

  34. I love the second half of "Only I Will Remain." It sounds like light to me, which is interesting because I think that theme is meant to be foreboding and convey destruction. But the variation in that track doesn't do that for me.

  36. Why should it be a bad thing. Look I get that new music is required, but it's also part of series of films in which at the momemt they're going for the nostalgia factor. So a lot of Bernstein music would make sense. I think Afterlife is a terrific score so I'll wait to fully judge this when it's out

  38. Still a pain to think about, now years later. All the work that went into creating those easter egg references, and the whole scene is over and done with in a nano second. Like most of the film, it hurries along. A funny thing to think about -- could Oma Tres have survived? The whole planet was blown to smitheerens, so probably not. But maybe there was time to evacuate, like some managed. I expect an entire spin-off series focussing on Tres' life, and how he managed to own a bar on Kijimi.

  43. I’m loving it. Each episode seems to “fly by” in what feels like 5 minutes. And I have been enjoying the music more - there have been a few scenes where the music really stood out for me in a good way in recent episodes. i haven’t seen Band of Brothers since it was released, so it’s been a while but I really think the quality is similar.

  47. So far, I've been to these: The Kid The Gold Rush The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (twice) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (once, but I already have tickets for another performance in Antwerp next year) Titanic West Side Story Gladiator Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl Jurassic Park Predictably, PotC was the weakest of the bunch. They're doing Dead Man's Chest in The Netherlands this Christmas, but I can't really be bothered. At World's End could be good live, though. The final thirty minutes of RotJ is madness for the orchestra to play in one go. Really impressive! T-Rex Rescue and Finale also sounded like quite the workout. On my wishlist are: The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King How to Train Your Dragon E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and a few Potters could be fun. Didn't they also do The Matrix and Independence Day at the RAH at some point? Those would be sweet to hear live too.

  48. And it's still a 2022 Top 3 score. I may wish a true intellectual like i. e. Wintory or Greenwood would get a chance to develop a truly 'alien' score, which does not confuse complexity with elaborate layering and sound wizardry, but as it is, Zimmer delivered.

  49. Thought I’d share this little thematic glossary I put together. I was initially among those who thought this was a “monothematic score”- probably because the main theme is used the most throughout the film. The names are my own invention so you might call them something else or attribute them to a different idea. But there’s a good handful here. Funny how Zimmer stated how he never thought of this score in the way of “themes”. Perhaps he meant in the leitmotific way. This is definitely not LOTR. But he’s got some great tunes in here that seem loosely connected to certain feelings/ideas that reoccur on screen. As simple as they may be. This score is great. It bares repeated listens and is not as punchy as PoTC or even the Dark Knight. But I really enjoy it: Dune “A Theme” Main Theme(?) Slower 8 note phrase (4 notes played lower on the scale with the following 4 up higher). Used for a lot of BIG moments. EPIIIIC 🤪 When played faster it functions as a “B theme” of sorts. This ostinato version plays under the slower version or plays by itself. (Leaving Caladan-(1:19-1:39)”A theme” (Ripples in the Sand- (1:10-1:35)(4:20-5:05) “A theme” (Visions of Chani-(3:25-3:54) “A theme” (Herold of Change -(0:00-0:26) “B theme” (Leaving Caladan- (0:28-1:15) “B theme” Fate/ “The One” theme- more mystical/slightly sinister theme (similar to Commodus theme in Gladiator) Sometimes played as a “war cry” in regards to Paul’s destiny as a warrior/messiah. (Gom Jabbar-1:13-1:37) (The One-0:00-1:40) (Pauls Dream- 0:00-1:55) Vast Mystery/Wonder Chords Some of my favorite moments in the score. Tends to communicate a sense of vast space and possibility. The most “space-y” sounding chords in this sci-fi score. (Herald of Change-1:22-2:10) (Visions of Chani- 2:28-3:10) (Sandstorm-1:10-2:00) (Stillsuits- 2:10-4:15) Tragic Noble Theme-The most “classic Zimmer” anthem tune. Similar to his Bach-inspired theme from Dark Phoenix.Seems to be associated with the burdens of duty/responsibility/leadership. (Herald of change- 3:08-3:45) (Visions of Chani-0:00-0:37) (Blood for Blood- 1:17-1:43) (Holy War- 0:00-0:57) Impending Doom motif-Bad things are gonna happen.Sounds similar to some of the evil monk music in DaVinci Code.Tends to start low and build in intensity. (Bene Gesseret- 2:16-2:33) (Burning Palms- 2:06-3:45) (Holy War- 0:57-2:12) (Premonition- 2:00-3:23) Sorrow/Loss motif- Simple sad little tune. Usually performed by a female voice. (Stranded-0:00-End) (Blood for Blood- 1:55-End) (The Fall- 0:30-1:00) (My Road Leads…- 0:00-1:00) Duncan Idaho motif- Heard much more in the film itself. A Brief but noble DarkKnight/Man of Steel mashup sounding motif. But it can be heard on the ost in few spots. (Armada-0:27-1:35) a tragic version with the “sorrow theme” on top (Burning Palms-0:29-1:10) There’s a handful of textures and instrumentation used as part of his soundscape for different locations/peoples. Not hard and fast attributions. But in general … Bagpipes- House Atreides. Tune appears briefly in “Armada” and then as source music. Log Drum(?) riff- Arakis stuff Whisper/chants - Bene Gesseret stuff Deep Manipulated throat singing- used for a lot of scenes involving Sardukar or the Baron. Harkonon “screech”- strange manipulated shafar horn(?) pops up when Raban the beast is wrecking havoc. Harkonon “clang”- rhythmic banging pattern often accompanied by the “screech” horn
