  1. So, E.T. appears to have had a number of planned album tracks that were never used. I recently noticed a number of cues in John Williams' original sketches are marked 'In Album', but aren't actually heard on the 1982 album as it was released. The cues with these 'Album' indications are: 1M1 Revised - The Forest (the only one on the list actually on the OST) 2M3 Alternate Beginning (with an indication to segue to bar 5 of 2M3) 3M2 Meeting E.T. 5M2 E.T. Raids The Icebox (with an indication to overlap the downbeat of bar 54 with bar 43 of 5M5) 5M5 E.T. Gets An Idea 9M1 Keyes Enters The House 10M1 He Came To Me (with an indication to segue to 9M1 at the end) I've reconstructed the two cue combinations: E.T. Raids the Icebox and E.T. Gets An Idea He Came To Me and Keyes Enters The House So, I wonder what the story is here? The LP is already about 40 minutes, so there wouldn't have been enough space for its current contents plus all these other cues. Could a double LP have been considered? Or maybe these were planned before the unique OST arrangements were created? Who knows...

  4. And that's nothing compared to what the conspirators would do to you if you spilled the beans. You know the horrors that would await you. Lucas and his forces are the most devious deceivers, the most incompetent concealers, the most perfect plotters of plots. They knew from the start that the Chosen One would come to lay waste to their plans like a bantha to its fodder. Darkness rises, and light to meet it. Just look at the writing. Scattered across the scripts of all nine films are the letters: "K E E P S C H T U M M A T T R I S" No, better to heed their undeniable warning. Until the appointed time.

  6. The 82 draft also refers to "Vader's body" after he died, because that is what it is And refers to Jabba as "it" in paragraph 36. I suppose we should also brace ourselves for his inevitable return

  9. And for those who can't read German: Even the start of the ball has everything this time to go down in history. For the arrival of the guests, the Vienna Philharmonic 2023 have a surprise ready, which can without exaggeration be booked as a sensation. John Williams wrote a fanfare for it. Almost a hundred years after the first performance of Richard Strauss' Philharmonic Fanfare in 1924, at the first ball of the Vienna Philharmonic, the sonorous signet has a pendant, written by the most famous composer of contemporary music. After the concerts that John Williams gave together with the Philharmoniker, the orchestra board launched the idea. And the much sought-after gladly accepted. As early as June 2020, Williams sent his, as he put it, "little experiment". After all, according to the composer modestly in the accompanying letter to the Vienna Philharmonic, who could shake hands with Richard Strauss? Both fanfares will be heard at the 80th Philharmonic Ball: that of Richard Strauss, without which the ball would simply be unthinkable, and the new one by John Williams.

  13. Of course, the title "Andor," or And/Or meaning "this and that," or "this or that," with the final two letters being OR, which, when flipped become RO, or Rogue One. Andor will be a complete retelling of Rogue One, from the point of view of the Death Star, which as we know from Tales of the Bounty Hunters, was secretly IG-88 all along. "The story is really about the droids." So it is George, so it is.

  16. Should've said - "That first Avatar becoming the biggest film of all time was a crazy fluke. I mean it's gonna be pretty impossible for a sequel to repeat that kind of record success 13 years later." "Actually Sir, it's gonna be super easy, barely an inconvenience."

  19. Please Daniel, we can't keep doing this "Anakin is very different in the end. The thing of it: The prophecy was right. Anakin was the Chosen One, and he does bring balance to the Force. He takes the ounce of good still left in him and destroys the Emperor out of compassion for his son." - The Making of RotS “I’ve left pretty explicit instructions for there not to be any more features. There will definitely be no Episodes VII — IX. That’s because there isn’t any story,” he explained. “The Star Wars story is really the tragedy of Darth Vader. That is the story. Once Vader dies, he doesn’t come back to life, The Emperor doesn’t get cloned and Luke doesn’t get married.” -Total Film “I never had a story for the sequels, for the later ones,” later admitting he also would “probably not” let anyone else take over for him if it happened." -Vanity Fair All of this https://comicbook.com/starwars/news/disney-ceo-bob-iger-star-wars-george-lucas-upset-betrayed-sequel-trilogy-wouldnt-follow-his-plots/ “Bringing back the Emperor was an idea J.J. brought to the table when he came on board,” Trevorrow told Empire. “It’s honestly something I never considered. I commend him for it. This was a tough story to unlock, and he found the key.” nme.com It wasn't planned. It obviously wasn't planned. Here is the evidence, not random pedantic semantics. George certainly changed his story a few times over the years, but if you read his original takes on VII-XII, a lot of that stuff got rolled into RotJ, the prequals, and The Clone Wars. I believe, based on Iger's book, that Lucas came up with treatments for the more recent VII-IX in order to get a better deal out of Disney. I have no doubts they would have been interesting and compelling films, but they wouldn't have looked anything like the sequels we got. They probably wouldn't even look much like the treatments. George is an editor at heart, not a writer. He gets elements, and makes a story from them, and isn't afraid to change his mind, much to the chagrin of OT purists--and would-be secret-finders.

  20. I can’t lie: I really expected more of a slam-dunk release year for Williams’ ninetieth.

  21. Yes, roughly the first 16 seconds of 1-04 are 2M3 Alternate Beginning. 2-12 has a different take of 2M3 Alternate Beginning with a solo E-flat clarinet in place of the piccolo (0:00-0:16), but also retains the bars the insert was meant to replace (0:16-0:26).

  22. Casino Royale has some cues missing. And I would love the full version African Rundown. Quantum Of Solace is missing 2 short action cues I think and maybe a few other short cues. It would be something to have that expanded. I also would love and expansion of Licence To Kill, Living Daylights & Moonraker

  24. Dragonslayer (Alex North) Some of the best orchestrations and textures I've ever heard in a film score. But... as I've said in another thread, there aren't any recognizable themes which I would expect from such a film (although I have not seen it). I would die to see the written score though from the likes of Omni Music Publishing, Neumation or Chris Siddall.

  31. Not my updated theory, no. This is what I posted on page 161: The stakes will be raised as the Saga continues. By completing the revenge of the Sith and other insidious schemes of selfishness, Emperor Palpatine will prove he is the master of evil. This Final Trilogy will tie the story together in a most impressive, definitive conclusion. By the end, it will be clear that narrative of the Star Wars Saga was planned from its inception. I say the missed opportunity of the century would have been not having Emperor Palpatine be the single, true villain of the Saga. I can't say I have, no. But I'm positive that, in the interviews I have seen, Abrams and Ridley did not admit to there being 'no plan for the trilogy'. But you are saying they did. You need to quote their admissions. Why in the world would you assume that my interpretation is "the same" as yours? Once you tell me your plot assessment of TROS and your list of perceived plot holes, our discussion/debate can continue. (FYI, saying something 'was stupid' is not an assessment; it's your opinion.)

    Blade Runner: Final Cut

I find it denser and more rewatchable than 2001. It has a better sequel than Alien, in my opinion (Aliens is fun, but dumb), and is more visually interesting than either of them. Which is saying something. I love them all, though, to be sure.

It is true that Blade Runner holds up incredibly well. The movie is beautiful, visually dense, atmospheric and strikingly artistic. Every set is a work of art.

  37. It’s really, really good. Might be Robert Downey Jr’s greatest performance as an actor, honestly. And I think the score may be Barry’s greatest (if perhaps not my favorite) after Dances With Wolves. IMO it fits the film perfectly and not in a generic way. I think he was inspired. Hear @Jay; check out the opening sequence of the film. This is not one-size-fits-all Barry; to me it seems very specifically tailored to this film: Yavar

  38. He's the leader of essentially the rebellion against the invading humans. He has the military skill and knowledge of how the humans operate, so he takes the lead in most confrontations. in reference to Cameron's conments; while I'm fine with an exploration of a more negative Na'vi side and positive human side, Cameron hasn't exactly just painted the Na'vi as all good and the humans as all evil, like some haters narrow-mindedly state. In fact both films have portrayed good and bad actions of Na'vi and humans. E.g The scientists studying the Na'vi are good and risked their lives to help them. Also Jake was literally one of the military and yet he risked his life to help them. So too did Trudy, who actually died to save the Na'vi. Even Selfridge, the man in charge of the entire operation to pillage Pandora's resources, was ultimately very clearly not happy with the military intervention, and even gave the scientists a chance to evacuate the Na'vi clan before Quarritch and his forces got there. And of course in The Way of Water, we are shown a frightening side of Neytiri, as she was very willing to kill Spider, an innocent human child, in order to save her own family and seek revenge for her own loss. Doesn't seem all that black and white to me.

  39. I have seen it. I think it's quite good. I love biographies and this was a good means of learning more about Chaplin (if what we see is true). i see the film gets 7,5 at imdb, which I think it totally deserves it. The score was good too, but in the known Barry mode in which if you take a score from a film and paste it to another, it would fit there too.

  40. Saw the movie last night and enjoyed it for what it was - very silly but entertaining and funny. I noticed the music plenty of times, certainly enough to give the album a quick sampler on Spotify. Interesting 'improvement' because I can't remember a single thing about the first film's score.

  41. Still I don't remember any comment in this thread of anyone betting against the success of this movie. As far as I remember, everyone here, the fanboys and those who expected it to be a bad or mediocre movie, all were joined in believing that this movie is going to be a big commercial success, like the first movie before.

  45. Whatever bad or sceptical I said about this score in the very beginning, I have to take it back. The double album is really an enormous musical pleasure. With the pictures it might be a little bit over the top. But as a score album for a film music lover it is wonderful. Great themes. Great arrangements. Just beautiful. Never thought, I would ever say this about a score from 2022.

  46. It's quite funny actually; I very recently switched from SoundHound to Shazam. What SoundHound wasn't able to recognise, Shazam was able to. That's all it took. Another track on that same album, 'corporate Power' is a fun listen. Dave Hewson has proved a great new discovery for me.
